Van Mujeres
Van Mujeres is a new self-organizing movement of
“women inspiring women” to create self-employment and hope for the
future in the state of Tabasco, Mexico.
In 2005, Van Mujeres was launched as a key initiative of Governor
Manuel Andrade of Tabasco, who together with Dr. Eric Hansen of the
Economic Transformations Group committed to implement Van Mujeres as
a Clinton Global Initiative commitment.
“We commit to supporting the pivotal role of women in catalyzing
economic development in the state of Tabasco, Mexico by training and
supporting 15,000 poor women to form savings groups, identify small
business opportunities, and obtain small business financing during
2005-2006.”
As of September 2006, 15,000 women have received training, and more
than 9,000 women have received micro credits and launched new
business activities.
